It’s surprisingly hard to find time (and feel like it) to write about disc golf when you have a full time job. I know it will get better as soon as we move to our new place because the course will be next door which I’m hoping will get me in the mood to write. Since I’m mentioning this, I’m going to try and play every morning during the week. I’ll be out there around 8:15 or so around basket 7 at Hovley Park in Palm Desert, California. If anyone wants to shoot an early round come by.
Now lets get to this past weekend’s tourney. Again the guys from Helix DG hosted the tourney along with the city of La Quinta, and it was plenty of fun. What made it exciting for me was they came up with another layout for the second 9 holes. It was much more challenging and stretched out. Some legit pair four’s were constructed which was refreshing considering all we have around here is par three’s. For being a small park they utilized the area well. Lots of OB (sidewalks & flower beds which there is a lot of) which adds strategy to the game rather than lets see who can throw the farthest. I definitely recommend everyone to come out next time it’s set up. You won’t regret it.
As far as the results, Jon Berg (the TD for the event) took first place. Bert Cotton took second and I took third in a playoff. I usually don’t do well in playoffs but this time I held it together and drained a 25 footer to take the win. Not too bad after taking a month off. I’m not sure when the next event will be scheduled but I will definitely let everyone know when I find out.
Considering it’s the winter time disc golf in general slows down. Consider it the off season. I will be looking forward to some Ice Bowls in the LA, San Diego, and Beaumont areas coming early next year. Hopefully the coming year will bring success to Off Axis, disc golf, and everyone else trying to make it in this silly world of ours.
Till next time, buy hand warmers for those cold mornings (they truly work)
